Catwoman the cat lady by caanantheartboy Catwoman the cat lady by caanantheartboy
WOW, a daily deviation! I'm totally floored by the faves and comments on this piece. It's amazing!

I think I saw someone suggest I name all the cats so - don't read the next paragraph if you'd still like to play the guessing game!

Behind the couch: Krazy Kat, Azrael (Smurfs), Bill the Cat, Felix, MAD Cat (with a Hello Kitty doll), Top Cat and Snowball II. On (and above) the couch: Streaky (who is orange, yes. My bad!) Mooch (Mutts), Stimpy, Mr Kat (Kid vs Kat), Sylvester, Puss in Boots, Figaro. The rest: Tom, Simon's Cat, Nermal, Garfield, Penelope, O'Malley, Marie (I wasn't gonna do ALL the Aristocats!), Horse (Footrot Flats), the Cheshire Cat, and Bucky and Scratchy behind Batman. The posters are That Darn Cat and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. (I also could have done The Cat from Outer Space, Le Chat Noir, and many others. Space restrictions!) The framed 'cat man' is Blacksad. The record is of course Josie and the Pussycats and the book, which has become illegible from the scanning, is Jennie, by Paul Gallico. (I believe it may be called 'The Abandoned' in the US?) It's about a girl who turns in to a cat. My dad read it to me and my brother when we were kids.

It's cats only, so there's no tigers! (Hobbes, Tigger, etc... OUT.) ;)

I avoided humanoid cats (except that Blacksad pic) and cats of a more adult nature. (Fritz. Fat Freddy's Cat. Etc.)

Both Eek and Heathcliff were on my list, but ultimately left off 'cos of space. I also left off others who came from the same 'world' to keep the variety up. So there's only two Aristocats out of many, and indeed other Disney cats were left out because of that (I love Oliver and Co.) Also with Sylvester and Penelope there was no need for Pussyfoot. Or even Furrball (Sylvester's Tiny Toons counterpart.) I probably could have put in Rita though (from Animaniacs.) It also meant no Arlene, since Garfield and Nermal were enough. Also there's nothing from anime or manga because I don't really watch/read much of it and this was meant to be an amalgam of stuff I grew up with and/or still read/watch, and not a comprehensive list. (Although I really wanted to scatter around some Samurai Pizza Cat toys but I don't think I could have achieved that in enough detail for people to get it straight away.)

Oh, and I was aiming for just cartoons and comics which is why no Cat in the Hat. Besides falling in to the humanoid category, it's also a children's book. (Maybe I should have put it on the coffee table too!)

I hope that answers some or all of the questions I've been seeing! I'm preparing to drive to Vancouver tomorrow for the Fan Expo this weekend so I haven't gotten to the comments, but I will! Thank you all for leaving them, and looking, and loving cats! In all their shapes and sizes. :)

This was a commission I did for Fan Expo Toronto last year. I finally got it coloured a few weeks ago. Can you name them all? (Given that I am an Aussie in Canada, there's two in there that only an Aussie (or Kiwi) or a Canadian would probably get, respectively.) ;)

I saw this picture posted on a random forum somewhere, and seeing that you included Horse from Footrot Flats, I just had to find the original artist to comment how awesome it is that there are people out there who still remember Footrot Flats, especially people from outside of Oceania :D

I noticed someone commented that Footrot Flats is Australian. It's actually by a New Zealand author, and the series is set in New Zealand. Although we Australians do love to take credit for a lot of things that came from New Zealand ;)

I know it's Kiwi. I'm an Aussie myself, I only live in Canada. Wasn't born here.

Footrot Flats was one of my favourite strips as a kid. Had ALL the books and I still watch the movie once every year or two. :D

WillM3luvTrains Featured By Owner Sep 20, 2015
Okay, so I'm not a fan of Batman (no offense meant), but I do like those cats in there!  My favorites are Tom, Top Cat, Sylester, Snowball, and look Felix! I also like Garfield and Nermal in there!

I'm serious, if I was to be an animal, I'd be a cat.

It's too bad the Aristocat characters are not completely right in their whole "Every Body Wants To Be A Cat!" Funny song!

Cats are one of my most favorite animals! They';re so so cute! I have a few. I've learned from experience though that cats are cuter when they belong to someone else, a grass is greener kind of thing if you know what I mean.

I keep considering getting a couple cats (RECOMMENDED TO ALL READING, if you're thinking about getting a cat, GET two cats if you can, one cat cannot be alone, a cat needs a companion. I speak from experience, when I was 6 we had one cat but she went crazy and she climbed up our door-frames. She even cimbed me and that hurt! It's a wonder I didn't cry. But when I was 9 we got a pair of cats and had them longer and sure they wrestled with each other but better I say its best to have two cats at the least but that's just my personal view, my mother's too.)

But don't get more cats than you can actually handle, especially to all you cat lovers. I love cats too and I'd take one in myself if I could afford it but don't take more cats than you can really take care of. I have to make sure of this myself too 'cause though I've never horded cats, I may have had some obsession with them. I'm that way with rabbits too.

We have two cats and they're awesome. They sleep together, eat together, fight together, and neither are lap cats, but they do like to be next to you (which is perfect). Also, neither of them scratch and they love our two year old no matter how much he squishes them. They just walk away if he gets too rough. No swats! Best cats ever.

If you ever want to read a great book about a boy who turns in to a cat, I heartily recommend The Abandoned (in some countries it's called Jennie) by Paul Gallico.
WillM3luvTrains Featured By Owner Sep 21, 2015
When I said "I have a few," I think that was a typo, I meant to say "I HAD a few."

I've been a cat person ever since I was a very little boy, never a dog person, I was scared of dogs and didn't like that they chased cats. I was scared they'd bite and I'm still scared of dogs to this day, until I get to know them, and loose dogs not on a leash make me uncomfortable.

What's ironic though, no dog has ever bitten me, well my clothes but not my skin, but cats, I've been hurt by a few them, including the three I had, scratched and bitten, and I wasn't afraid of cats. Cats are cute but the business end of them are their claws! I've learned from experience. Just cause something's small and cute doesn't mean it cannot, not to mention will not, hurt you.

When I was five and living in New York, we went to a friends house for lunch. She had a dog who I was really scared of and yet he did nothing to me. She also had a cat and I trusted him, but then...

...yes, he scratched me. My point: I was scared of an animal that wasn't going to hurt me but not afraid of one that did. I cannot remember how many cats total have scratched me, not that many though. It didn't stop me from liking cats and I didn't become scared of them though.

I've had some other odd experiences with cats. One cat jumped right up at my face! Well actually two did, including the one we had when I was six, but the other one, I was at a neighbor's house, I stretched my hand out and put all my fingers together, because my mother did that, but instead of jumping at my hand, the cat jumped at my face! I think the person who had that cat also had a dog, whom I also didn't have to meet.

And there was one cat that kept rubbing his face against me. He belonged to someone else but he used to rub against me. ANd when I would try to get away he would run after me and grab me. But one night, he stood on his hind legs and put his front legs around me and that's when I had to quickly make my escape! YIKES!!! Thankfully that only happened once but this cat would come to me almost every time I got near him.

There was only one cat I was ever afraid of. He belonged to my aunt but he didn't like anybody and he would lunge at people, including me! He was the meanest cat I've ever seen (he was previously owned and must have been abused) and he would attack anything or anyone that came at him or put near him. You had to wear gloves in order to handle this cat. I couldn't even trust him enough to share the same room with him and would wear a sock around my hand and lift him by one of his paws to escort him out of the room and close him out. But the worst thing he did to me was bite my lip and he drew blood! And he was a hard biter!

And I had one cat jump on my back. That was unexpected but better that than a dog, especially a big dog. I didn't try to push him off though, I let him jump himself off, but I became a human catwalk for him!

Truth be told, I like it when cats come after me rather than run away from me, I would never hurt a cat. But the problem with the cats that do come to you, they don't leave you alone and will keep coming after you. You want to do something for them and don't want to make them feel abandoned or neglected, but you just cannot take them in.

It's rare to find cats that don't scratch, and thankfully rare to find cats that are rattle snakes on the inside! But all my cats scractched and bit me, although I'd rather be bitten than scratched by a cat and than bitten by a dog, although if I knew cats bit when I was a really young, I probably would have been scared of them too. And only one of my cats was a lap cat (one of the cats we got when I was 9.) She liked me more than her brother did but I liked her brother better.

I love cats, real cats, cartoon cats, regular cats, anthropomorphic cats, and talking cats (only on TV though, I'd probably freak out and ran like the wind if a cat came to me and started talking to me, even said my name!) Now I almost wish I had a cat.

This cat belongs to my friend in California:…

Ah, how much more amazing and formidable her feline army has become now that they're all recognizable characters! The damage they could do as a team... Batman might have to retire. Or hire a dozen stunt doubles, at least. XD
